Why We Started Somerwell
Somerwell Press began with a simple, uncomfortable question: how can someone sit in the pews for fifty years and still feel lost the moment they open the Bible on their own?
It's not for lack of faith. It's not for lack of trying. The truth is that the Bible was never meant to be read cold. It shifts without warning — a flowing story in Genesis becomes a wall of laws in Leviticus, then genealogies, then prophecy — and most readers quietly conclude the problem is them. It isn't. What's missing is context: who wrote each book, when, why, and what the Church has always understood it to mean.
We built The Catholic Bible Companion to hand that context back. One page before each of the 73 books — the same orientation a scripture scholar would give you, in plain language, in about five minutes. Not a study program. Not homework. Just the missing page that turns reading into understanding.
Our goal isn't to replace your Bible or your parish. It's to help faithful Catholics finally read the Scripture they've loved their whole lives — and be able to pass it on to the people they love.
